Sylvia Schramm deliberately plays with contrasts here. “I was looking for a balance between glamour and coolness in these works.”

The female stars chosen seem rusty and contrast with the colorful gems. They are great women of film history and they all have some relationship with gemstones. The multi-faceted stones react to the incidence of light, as in certain places the shiny metal plate of the background reflects the light. The work in digital painting was manually processed with synthetic resin. As a result, the refraction of light from the stones becomes a spectacle of color and is tactilely tangible. The portrait recedes somewhat and yet personality and glamour remain in balance.

Technique

Schramm’s artistic technique is Digital Painting, which she has developed into something unique using knowledge from painting. The motif is printed on a shiny metal plate using special, elaborate processes, creating a coexistence between the reflective background and the paint application.This work plays extremely with the light, with matte and gloss effects, which is also further emphasized by the manual application of synthetic resin.
