Description

These works were inspired by Sylvia Schramm’s search for the ” grand ” or the sublime.

Here she has focused on great artists from the field of painting, who have gone into history far beyond their lifetime. Shown are the painters Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Michelangelo’s David, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Albrecht Dürer.

The artist was interested in the idea of transferring these famous personalities once into the present time.

She positioned the figures as if in a fashion magazine, dressed them in modern clothing and then wove them into a “painting.” In fact, they all transformed themselves into pretty “cool guys”. Not only the wonderful works, but also the strong, personal charisma of these art creators are indeed beyond time!

The reflective background of metal penetrates the matte paint application in many places and thus the figures seem then yet not quite concrete.

Technique

Schramms artistic technique is digital painting, which she has developed into something unique with the knowledge gained from painting. The motif is printed onto a metal plate by means of a special, complex process, whereby a Coexistence between substrate and paint is created. The interplay between matt and shine makes the viewer literally feel the material and figurative and characterizes her impressive unique pieces. Symbolically, in order to preserve the ephemeral, this work was “weightily” framed in industrial iron.

Suspension:
Gallery rail + steel cables + metal hook (hang in the frame hook) or: Use dowels.
